🥽

Project Overview

Life with Parkinson's is an immersive Virtual Reality experience designed to foster empathy and understanding of the daily challenges faced by individuals living with Parkinson's Disease. Through a realistic three-day progression simulation featuring haptic feedback, comprehensive task systems, and detailed environments built in Unity, users gain firsthand insight into how this neurodegenerative condition affects everyday life.

Our project aims to bridge the gap between medical education and empathetic patient care by allowing healthcare students, caregivers, and community members to experience Parkinson's from a patient's perspective.

Experience the Progression

Day One
Before Parkinson's
Experience daily life as it was before diagnosis. Complete routine morning tasks, interact with family members, and establish a baseline for normal motor function. This day sets the context for understanding what changes lie ahead.
Day Two
Early Onset Symptoms
Feel the first tremors and stiffness as early-stage Parkinson's begins to manifest. Tasks become more challenging as fine motor control diminishes. Experience the frustration and adaptation required as symptoms gradually affect daily activities.
Day Three
Advanced Challenges
Navigate the complexities of advanced-stage Parkinson's. Experience significant tremors, rigidity, and difficulty with coordinated movements. Understand the profound impact on independence and the importance of support systems and medication.

We collaborate closely with PCLA to ensure our simulation accurately represents the lived experiences of people with Parkinson's Disease. Their insights and guidance help us create an authentic and respectful educational tool.

Our Impact & Goals

Educational Impact: Provide healthcare students with empathetic context for patient care and understanding of neurological conditions.

Community Awareness: Increase public understanding and empathy toward individuals living with Parkinson's Disease.

Research Accessibility: Make advanced medical research and simulations accessible to students at all education levels, particularly in underrepresented communities across Los Angeles.

Future Vision: Expand the simulation to include additional neurological conditions and create a platform for other medical education experiences.
